The final day of Championship action

It has been a long hard season for some in the Championship, and there is still a couple of things left undecided; which way will the title swing? Who will be joining Rotherham United and Wigan Athletic in League One next season? Here is what we think will happen.

Championship Title:

Newcastle United are only one point behind Brighton and Hove Albion, the Seagulls have taken their foot off the gas since achieving promotion to the Premier League. However, The Toon Army have been slowly catching up with Brighton, could we see some last day drama?

With Brighton playing away at Aston Villa, the Midlands club would be more than delighted to round off a poor season by denying South Coast outfit the title. As for the Magpies, they take on Barnsley at home which they would be expected to win comfortably.

I think Newcastle will snatch the title from under Brighton’s nose, they are available at 11/10 through NetBet.

Championship Relegation Battle:

There are three teams battling it out to avoid the final relegation spot from the Championship; Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest.

Blackburn travel to an inconsistent Brentford . I expect the Bees to win, despite having only pride to play for, I think they should have enough to see off the Rovers.

Birmingham go away to Bristol City after beating a weakened Huddersfield last week . Surprise managerial addition Harry Redknapp will be keen to keep the Blues up, I can see them just sneaking it at Ashton Gate.

Finally, Nottingham Forest, the two-time European Cup winners, need to stay up to make a takeover on the cards much easier. They take on an out of form Ipswich who are another team with pride to play for. I think Forest will have enough to beat Mick McCarthy’s men.

Blackburn are the current bookies favourite, it is hard not to agree with them. You can get them at 4/7 from Betfair, but expect a lot of drama.
