1:50 Chester – Khairaat (5/4)
Sir Michael Stoute and Jim Crowley team up with this lightly-raced colt with plenty of potential. He’s won both of his last two starts, most recently defeating some well regarded prospects at Doncaster. He’s improving and on this mark it’s very hard to look past him.
2:25 Chester – Deauville/ Folkswood reverse forecast
Deauville brings a bit of class into this group three contest, Aidan O’Brien’s four-year-old won the Belmont Stakes at the highest level last season and on that form remains a key player in this. He was last seen finishing second in a similar race, and should be better for that run. Folkswood meanwhile was massively unlucky not to strike at Newmarket, and over an extra furlong should play a leading role once again.
3:00 Chester – Mutawatheb (5/1)
Richard Hannon’s four-year-old looks to have a big chance in this contest, after a seriously unlucky run at Chelmsford on his seasonal bow. His form last year was very strong, and he ran a great race when half-a-length off in a listed contest.
3:35 Chester – Venice Beach (5/2), Count Octave (16/1) e/w
Ryan Moore had a handful of choices in this race, and he’s picked a horse he hasn’t even ridden. Ballydoyle know their horses very well, and you must feel this is a bit special if Ryan has opted for it. The form is strong, and he was last seen running away with it like a true pattern horse.
Andrew Balding’s Count Octave could be in with a big chance at a lengthy price. In his two starts the three-year-old finished third, before running on strongly in a maiden contest at Wolverhampton. He certainly has place credentials.
