After two winners from four tips yesterday our attention turns to York’s Dante meeting. On an interesting day the Ascot and Epsom contenders are on show, and this promises to be a competitive day of racing.
2:20 York – Shabeeb
Roger Varian’s four-year-old enjoyed plenty of success last season winning two handicaps over this trip. He finished the year with two disappointing efforts, but should be better after a break. He looks a really nice prospect and could be in for a good season.
2:55 York – Out Do, George Bowen e/w
Out Do is down to a very low mark, and this one made the notebook after an eyecatching run when third in a similar handicap at Ripon. The handicapper has kept him on the same mark, and he should be better after making his seasonal bow. He’s classy and should play a leading role at this level.
George Bowen is very nicely handicapped but hasn’t been at his best for a while. One of these days he will run his race, we’re hoping that day can be today.
3:30 York – Brando NAP
Kevin Ryan talked exclusively to Hit The Front on his five to follow and this one appeared in there. On his seasonal bow he was very impressive winning over this trip, and has good form at the highest level when third in the Group One Champion Stakes. He looks a promising sort, and is set for a good season.
4:05 York – Shutter Speed
One of the exciting classic chances is Shutter Speed, and he should be way too good in this one. He won impressively on debut, and followed it up with an encouraging win at Newbury. John Gosden’s three-year-old is a very nice prospect and by far the best in the field. If she runs her race, she should be hard to beat.
5:45 Punchestown – Towshend
He struggled at Grade One level last time out, but is lowered in class and must have a great chance in this contest. He was a very encouraging winner on his penultimate start, and Ruby Walsh sticks with him for this one. He’s expected to go well again.
