2:20 Haydock – Parliamentarian (9/2)
This Godolphin four-year-old takes a step up to two miles for the first time in his career, and off this mark could be dangerous. He’s not been seen yet this season, and this is his first test over the extended trip; but he does seem to shape up as if he should stay. He’s won some good races in his career, and should win plenty more.
2:35 Goodwood – Billesdon Brook (2/1) NAP
A well bred maiden for Richard Hannon who should be able to win in maiden company after a solid debut effort. The two-year-old finished a close third in a conditions stakes on debut, and would have gained plenty of racecourse experience from the outing. She drops in grade, steps up a furlong and trip and should be hard to beat.
2:55 Haydock – Mustarrid (8/1)
A nice progressive Richard Hannon colt who looks to have a solid chance in this handicap. He’s won two races from four starts, with his two victories coming on the all-weather and came close to adding a third last time out when being touched off by Sir Michael Stoute’s City Of Joy. The form of that race looks very strong, and he can go one better today.
3:00 Curragh – Aqabah (11/4), Mount Wellington ew (20/1)
An expensive Godolphin purchase who justified favouritism at Ascot on debut when running out a narrow winner at the Berkshire track. He should improve from that run, and the added furlong should play to his strengths.
Mount Welllington should improve and could grab a place, he’s exceptionally bred and will be better after making his debut.
3:40 Chester – Energia Fox (7/2)
Richard Fahey’s six-year-old remains on the same handy mark of 81 after an encouraging effort at this track earlier this month. He lost out narrowly when third, and now with a 3lb claimer on board he has to be fancied to bag a win here. Mubajal is a big danger for Owen Burrows.
3:50 York – Out Do (7/1)
One we’ve been waiting for after an encouraging effort at Ripon last time out. Off a perfect mark of 99, David O’Meara’s eight-year-old will relish the fast ground and should run a huge race.
7:15 Sailsbury – Volpone Jelois (4/1)
Paul Nicholls hasn’t ever trained a flat winner, and you can read his thoughts ahead of this one on HTF. With confidence relatively high, and a decent run last time this bottom-weight looks to have a strong chance once again. The handicap mark looks perfect, especially with Megan Nicholls taking off an additional 5lb. He’s got great flat form, and could end the winless run after an astonishing 26 years.
